What is the penalty for not having the vehicle's compulsory insurance?

If we drive without compulsory insurance on our vehicle, or if it is not up to date, the Traffic Authorities will penalise us with a financial fine and the immobilisation of the vehicle until insurance is properly contracted, or the existing policy is brought up to date with payment, the responsibility lying with the vehicle owner.
